A concert and an international conference will mark 150 years since the death of Gioachino Rossini. (Old Divinity School, St John’s College)
The conference will take place on Sunday 23 September (9am to 5.30pm) and on Monday 24 September (9am to 1pm). Papers and round tables will focus especially on matters of text and performance, and on the relationships between the two (including the limits of interpretation by stage directors). Distinguished speakers, representing six different countries, include scholars of Rossini as well as theatre practitioners (see programme).
The concert (6pm, Sunday 23 September) will showcase music currently being edited for the series Works of Gioachino Rossini, and will feature leading Rossinian mezzo-soprano Anna Bonitatibus and pianist Adele D’Aronzo.
Both concert and conference are free and open to the public.
